Phoenix Rising

If you have followed the Hector and Trixie story, our fixation with compact convertible German engineered cars is nothing new. (See our wedding registry: Bloomingdales, Crate & Barrel, Mini Cooper.) So it should come as no surprise that we opted for the upgrade this morning at the National Rental car counter. 

When it comes to road trips, the convertible is the classic choice. Mustang? Been done. Corvette? Cliche. VW Beetle? Absolutely.

This bug will be our chariot for the next two weeks. 

Ah, the open road. There is nothing more freeing, more satisfying, more...extremely hot. We put the top down on the highway today on the way from the airport to Lisa and Jason's house. It was hot. 105 in the shade, but they say it's a dry heat so it only feels like 100.

Tomorrow, we set out to explore America's fifth largest city. (Philadelphia, as it turns out, is both the the sixth borough and the sixth city, coming in just a few thousand inhabitants behind Phoenix.)

For now, a midnight (or 9 PM - depending on your time zone) swim in the pool.
