Proneymoon in Vegas: The Night Setting

Attempting to walk down the overcrowded strip last night, Amanda declared "the night setting was made for Las Vegas". She was referring to the night snapshot mode on our camera, but it really captured the mood.

Some time around noon yesterday we peeled ourselves out of bed and did the only logical thing following the events of the night before. We went to IHOP.

Did you know that they put pancake batter in the omelets to make them fluffy?

This is a wonderful way to experience Vegas. I'm sure a suite at the Bellagio would be fine also. But staying off the strip with friends and eating breakfast with locals suits us just fine. We wanted to get a sense of real life here. And we had gorged ourselves on pancake battered omelets. So we used Jamie and Christopher's guest passes and went with them to their new gym. 2008 will be remembered as the year I discovered exercise, and the summer Amanda discovered my abdominal muscles. I really enjoy our little gym in the village. I thought it was a pretty big gym actually, until I came to Vegas.

According to Jamie, they spent 22 million dollars to build it, and it's one of a chain of six in town. I enjoyed the people watching. I know that sounds bad, but wouldn't you like to go where the showgirls stay in shape?

After the gym we readied ourselves for the night. We intended to tour one end of the strip before seeing Zumanity and the other end after. We stopped in New York.

Then we went to the MGM. We stopped briefly to dig the sleeping lions (descendants of the original MGM lions).

And into the Centrifuge Bar where the waitresses spontaneously dance on the bar.

After the show we went backstage to visit with Edie. She was fabulous both on and off stage.

Then we made our way into the swirling, swarming, sweating Vegas evening and did what we had to. Even though we lost a few dollars, it still felt like we came out ahead. And somehow, once again, we had the last round at a (different) cowboy-themed gay bar. This one had peanuts on the bar for you to eat while playing video blackjack.

There's really no way to capture it all, but here are a few images to give you an idea.

Today, we head south to Carlsbad, CA. The forecast looks perfect, and we'll surely put the top down as soon as we get out of the desert.
